Program Description

Event Details

The Library has received a Soil Health Testing Kit from UMass Extension!

These supplies and instructions from UMass Extension help allow everyone to assess their soil quality. The Soil Health Testing Kit is great for diagnosing soil issues and tracking soil characteristics over time!

Healthy soil supports healthy plants and healthy ecosystems, but knowing how to measure soil health can feel complicated. In this workshop, we’ll introduce the UMass Soil Health Test Kit, a simple, hands-on toolkit for farmers, gardeners, and land managers. Participants will see demonstrations of quick field tests, including measurements of soil structure, compaction, water infiltration, and biological activity. We will discuss how to interpret the results. After the demonstration, the kit will be permanently housed at the Joshua Hyde Public Library. Anyone with a library card can check out the items!  The workshop is open to all experience levels. *Please be prepared to go outside if it is not raining*

This workshop is led by Artie Siller, PhD,UMass Extension Soil Health Educator.
