Pages and Packs Pantry

Alongside the books and library materials available at the Joshua Hyde Library, we also proudly host a food pantry during all open library hours. The Pages and Packs Pantry has been a joint effort between us here at the JHPL and the Tantasqua/Union 61 School District. Together we aim to support those in need throughout the Sturbridge community by providing access to essential food items.

Right around the corner from our DVD collection, the Pages and Packs Pantry is available to all library patrons. The food pantry is open to anyone who comes into the library, no library card or Sturbridge residency required.

Backpacks and tote bags are available to take and fill with items from our shelves of non-perishable pantry items and canned goods. In addition to food items, we also offer an array of personal care supplies such as toothbrushes, reusable water bottles, travel sized hygiene items, and more. A free-to-take bookshelf is also hosted right by all the pantry items.

Those looking to donate and support this initiative can help in a few key ways. Donations of non-perishable, non-expired pantry items are accepted at the front desk of the library at any time. Please check the expiration dates on donated items, and do not bring us anything dented or damaged. Every donation counts in making a positive impact, so even just one item is appreciated!

Most needed items are:

  • Canned soup & stew
  • Canned fruit & vegetables
  • Canned fish & meats
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned beans
  • Cereal & shelf-stable milk
  • Pasta/sauce & rice
  • Applesauce & healthy snacks for kids

Monetary donations directly fund the purchase of food and other items to supply the pantry. By contributing to this cause, you are helping create a stronger, more resilient community, where no one has to go without.
