About the movie: 1776 is a 1972 film adaptation of the Broadway musical that follows the debates and political maneuvering in Philadelphia during the summer of 1776 as the Second Continental Congress works towards drafting and signing the Declaration of Independence. The story centers on the efforts of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to convince the delegates to vote for independence from Great Britain. Despite internal disagreements and opposition, the film depicts the push to get the colonies to unite on the groundbreaking resolution.
